these questions carefully and think about how you
feel - also feel about how you
think! This is a difficult and personally stretching course, it turns students
current concepts on their heads which can be quite difficult - not everyone
wants this. The more fully and deeply you answer these questions the more you
will know, for yourself, if this is the work you wish to do. And I will have a
much better idea if this work will be suitable for you. I have to be quite sure
that you will find the work appropriate.
There is a great deal of work in the course. You will find that you need to
organise your time very carefully, and your relations with your family, and how
you deal with your everyday job. This is part of the shaman's skill - how s/he
integrates seamlessly with the world around in which s/he lives.
don't provide any more information until I have seen your application.
Please write to us giving your own responses to the following questions. The
application form is the beginning of a process by which we get to know each
other and decide if we can work together. It form the basis for further
conversation. There are no "right answers". I suggest you cut-and-paste the
following questions into an email and send your responses that way.
Your name, address, telephone number
Code], email, web site.
Your age. Life experience is very
important in this work. I do NOT work with anyone under the age of
twenty-seven and I prefer people to have completed their first Saturn return
before beginning the course.
Are you married, living with a
partner? The work will affect all your relationships and it is important that
you and your family are aware of this. Those who live with you will be
affected by what you do.
Do you have children? See 4 above.
Are you reasonably fit? I need to
know about any chronic illness; smoking; breathing difficulties or asthma;
epilepsy; heart condition; any drugs, e.g. steroids for arthritis, insulin
for diabetes or other medication; any complimentary therapy. All of these
things can very much affect how you are able to work - I need to know about
them and how you find they affect you. People with psychological or
psychiatric trauma, chronic depression and other related conditions will not
find this course suitable to them.
What does shamanism mean to you? A
desire to help other people may not always be of service! Nor will the need to
heal people. One question to ask yourself is how you see yourself, and human
beings, in relation to the other kingdoms of nature. Do you see yourself being
willing to learn what the other kingdoms want you to do?
Do you have animals? Experience with
animals is very important. You may find it quite difficult if you do not
already have a good and respectful relationship with animals. Watching,
book-learning and scientific study are not really adequate. During the course
you will very likely have a real-live Familiar, so if you are averse to
sharing your life with animals this course won't be for you.
Do you have experience in working
with - Plants, trees, gardening; Birds & air creatures; Water creatures;
Minerals. This too is very much a part of the work. Some of your training will
be in gardening. Please show us how you feel and work with the other kingdoms.
What is it that attracts you to the
Celtic magical traditions? What is Celtic for you? This course uses the Celtic
mythos but the Celts spread far and wide, and there are cross-references with
many other cultures. I seek to draw you towards the central truths which
underlie these traditions.
Have you trained with any other
shamanic tradition and/or have any Journeying experience, or any other
esoteric or spiritual practice or training? If so, where were you taught and
by whom? It is not necessary to have any such experience but if you have been
taught already I need to know what system you have been used to. Please tell
us about it.
Do you have any skills in
Do you record your dreams? If so, how
long have you been doing this? Do you draw them as well as write?
Please list, in order, ten of your
favourite books - fiction, non-fiction, biography, text books, religious,
whatever. Please don't get stuck in offering us "Celtic" books. If you like
Star Trek, Jane Austin, Agatha Christie, Dashiel Hammet, Dickens, Tolstoy,
Asimov, particle physics, history, medical law, computer science please tell
us. It may sound odd but what I want to know is what you really like -
not what you think I might like!
The course is held in the English
language, do you feel competent in this for reading, writing and speaking?
